In the innovative Work and Learn, 3 and 2 model, students have the opportunity to pursue their Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) certification by attending classes three days a week and engaging in paid employment within the continuing care sector for two days a week. This unique format of the Progressive Education Continuing Care Assistant program will be accessible in Sydney, Dartmouth, and various rural locations across the province.
For Nova Scotia residents who meet the eligibility criteria, this program offers a comprehensive package covering tuition, administrative and exam fees, and textbooks, at no cost to the participant!
The Work and Learn, 3 and 2 CCA program begins with approximately eight weeks of classroom-based learning. Following this initial phase, students transition to the combined work and learn schedule. The curriculum is designed to equip individuals with the skills necessary to provide compassionate care to the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and those recovering from illnesses. A preliminary interview may be conducted to determine suitability for clinical experience. Participants will need to arrange their own transportation to and from clinical placements and work experiences. The role demands flexibility with shift work and the physical capability to perform tasks such as moving, lifting, and extended periods of standing.
