Financial and Payroll Administration

The business world is unpredictable, but the skills of an accounting or payroll clerk are always needed. In fact, with the increasingly complex and computerized work environment, this profession is more in demand than ever.

Completing the Financial and Payroll Administration (FPA) program at CBSC will provide you with the necessary skills to begin a meaningful career in just 40 weeks. Our small class sizes and outstanding support services emphasize the individual student’s success, both in school and upon entering the workforce.

Our experienced program instructors will prepare you to use specialized accounting programs such as Quickbooks, as well as essential office programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook. You will become familiar with the best professional practices and techniques through handson experience, so you’ll be ready to succeed.

The unique structure of this program allows students to begin their studies at several different points in the course, so you can begin your career training more quickly. Our goal is to provide you with the skills you need to be successful in in a way that accommodates your busy life. Canadian Business Skills College is working in partnership with the Canadian Payroll Association to make sure that our students receive the most relevant and up-to-date training in payroll procedures and practices.

Our courses focus on:

  • Bookkeeping procedures and best practices in large and small businesses, including recording transactions, debits and credits, adding and adjusting payroll entries, and preparing financial statements
  • Preparing students to use professional accounting software such as Quickbooks Pro and Simply Accounting, including tracking accounts receivable and payable, creating detailed financial reports, and recording assets and liabilities.
  • Administrative skills needed for success in the workplace, such as workplace communications and customer service skills, organizing financial and personal information, billing and insurance claims, and efficient keyboarding practices
  • Mastering Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Compliance with current payroll legislation and administration practices regarding taxation and taxable benefits, preparing accurate earnings statements and records of employment, and a thorough understanding of Canadian employment standards
