HELP DESK SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Description: This diploma is a 23-week program delivered in-class. The College has included an additional 11 weeks to allow for illness, vacations and other course interruptions. The program is therefore required to be completed within 34 weeks. Diploma admissions are on a rolling basis.

The Help Desk Technician diploma is designed for students wishing to embark on a career in the Information Technology industry. This program will provide students with the skills necessary to service computer systems and to support users of these systems.

Students will study the theory of computer systems and operating systems and then develop practical skills through hands-on training. In addition, students will work with industry standard application software to develop expertise with desktop applications operations and troubleshooting operating systems.

An optional unpaid 8-week simulated work placement is available for students willing to commute to Mississauga, Ontario.

Arrow Maintain, troubleshoot and administer the use of local area networks (LAN’s), wide area networks (WAN’s), mainframe networks and computer workstations and peripheral equipment
Arrow Evaluate and install computer hardware, networking software and operating system software
Arrow Operate master consoles to monitor performance of computer systems and networks and to coordinate access and use of computer networks
Arrow Load computer tapes and disks and install software and printer paper and forms
Arrow Provide problem solving services to network users
Arrow Implement data, software and hardware security procedures
Arrow Perform routine network startup and close down and maintain control records
Arrow Perform data back ups and disaster recovery operations
