Healthcare, Wellness, Pharma Programs

  • The Medavie HealthEd Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) Distance Program combines online instructor-led classes, practical simulation labs, and clinical practicum experiences, allowing students to complete their theoretical studies from home. This program aligns with the competency standards set by the College of Paramedics of Nova Scotia, Paramedic Association of New Brunswick, Saskatchewan College of Paramedics, and the Paramedic Association of Canada for Advanced Care Paramedics. Students are advised to dedicate three hours of self-study for every hour of class time, supported by enhanced online resources. Practical labs are held at designated campuses. The program includes 478 hours of didactic instruction, 340 hours of simulation labs, 192 hours in clinical settings like emergency and operating rooms, and 504 hours in ambulance practicums, totaling 1514 hours of training, excluding self-study.
  • The Primary Care Paramedic Program aims to produce skilled, knowledgeable, and professional paramedics dedicated to excellence and compassionate care. Aligned with the standards of the College of Paramedics of Nova Scotia, Paramedic Association of New Brunswick, and the National Occupational Competency Profile by the Paramedic Association of Canada, it prepares graduates to significantly contribute to the paramedicine profession and their communities. This program focuses on theoretical knowledge, professional skill mastery, and fostering a professional demeanor. It emphasizes lifelong learning and adaptability in the ever-evolving medical field, encouraging students to be proactive in their continuous education. Faculty not only teach but also guide students as advisors and learning facilitators. Given the expanding role of paramedics, accumulating knowledge and skills is insufficient; students are encouraged to be curious and consistently enhance their expertise. The 50-week PCP program includes 7 months of classroom and simulation training followed by 4 months of clinical and practicum experiences.
  • The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) has the basic theoretical and practical training in life-saving and patient assessment skills. As an important member of the health care team the EMR can provide fundamental out-of-hospital care working with other health care provers in a wide variety of settings. The EMR Program will ensure that successful graduates have basic training to provide out of hospital care while working with other healthcare providers. Through synchronous lecture, case studies, self-directed learning, simulation, and practical patient experience the learner will possess sound knowledge and skills, an unwavering commitment to excellence in all that they do, and a deep sense of professionalism and caring. Successful graduates of the EMR Program will be prepared to function as part of the health care team providing safe patient handling and movement, and safe vehicle operation. The EMR Program is an outcomes-based program that will provide a foundation for the entry-to-practice Emergency Medical Responder as described by the Canadian Organization of Paramedic Regulators (COPR) and the Paramedic Association of Canada (PAC). The EMR program meets the outcome requirements of the provincial regulator, the College of Paramedics of Nova Scotia (CPNS). The program is designed to provide the acquisition of concepts and theories, mastery of professional skills, and the attainment of a professional attitude though recognizing the limited professional experience of the EMR in the out-of-hospital paramedic context of practice, successful integration of the EMR into paramedic practice will include the development of a transition to clinical practice plan. The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) program is 12 weeks in length which includes 9 weeks of classroom/simulation education, as well as 3 weeks of practical patient experience.
  • As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), you will become an additional resource to help the emergency medical system manage low-acuity, non-urgent patient transfers. This will keep more ambulances staffed in their communities, and will help increase the coverage for PCPs and ACPs in the province. EMTs will help provide a valuable service to the patients, your paramedic colleagues, and all those who rely on ambulance services during their times of need. This program develops the required competencies and knowledge for providing care to the sick or injured. Through live lecture, self-directed learning, simulation and practical experience the individual will possess sound knowledge and skills, an unwavering commitment to excellence in all that they do and a deep sense of professionalism and caring. The program meets the competency requirements of the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick (PANB). The program is designed to provide the acquisition of concepts and theories, mastery of professional skills and the attainment of a professional attitude. The EMT program is 9 weeks in length, which includes 7 weeks of classroom/simulation training as well as 2 weeks of practical training.
  • The paramedic refresher program caters to paramedics whose provincial registration has expired or those at risk of not fulfilling their provincial re-registration criteria. Prospective participants should consult their provincial regulator to ensure the program satisfies the requirements for re-registration. Delivered through a blend of online and classroom-based instruction, the theoretical components are offered online via our Learning Management System and Virtual Classroom software, enabling live interaction with instructors and peers from any internet-enabled location. Participants will need a computer, internet access, and a microphone. Practical skills and scenario-based training are conducted in person at our Dartmouth or Moncton campuses.
