Students will learn the practical and relevant skills needed to operate in an administrative role within a medical office. Training will cover such tasks as billing patient services to the Ministry of Health or patient as required, health information management, patient data collection, keyboarding skills, medical transcription, creating and maintaining medical databases, scheduling appointments, using Microsoft Office® applications, aseptic techniques, medical office procedures and communication styles for effectively dealing with the public. Students will also learn anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, CPR & SFA, how to take vital signs, diagnostic testing and patient preparation.
MOAD students learn in a traditional classroom setting as well as have access to a medical laboratory as required (ie: aseptic techniques, urinalysis). Students are also provided with a laptop to practice keyboarding skills, learn Microsoft Office® applications, AbelMed (OHIP Billing), Accuro (EMR) as well as access to a simulated virtual medical office through our ebook partners.

Medix College’s Massage Therapy program is approved by the Private Career Colleges Act 2005 and upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to write their Registration Examinations. PSWs provide care, support and assistance to clients who are aging, chronically ill and/or have physical/mental disabilities. There’s never been a better time than now to become a PSW and play a vital role in assisting clients and their families with the many tasks for which they require assistance.
The PSW certificate program is designed to teach you how to effectively provide care and assistance to clients and families in order to live fulfilling lives in their communities and in institutions. As a student of this program, you will develop a broad range of abilities emphasizing value, sensitivity and respect for the individuality of each client. You will also have the opportunity to participate in cross disciplinary and/or inter-professional learning opportunities with other members of the care and service team such as a Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse or Social Service Workers. You will play a vital role in providing care and companionship for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence, or family disruption.

The PSW program includes a full hands-on lab where students practice common tasks of a PSW such as: meal preparation, household management, aiding with bathing and other aspects of personal hygiene, assisting with daily living activities and errands, administering medications, feeding, performing bedside and personal care, assisting with mobility, increasing the clients’ comfort and safety, communicating clearly and compassionately with clients, reporting accurately and performing light housekeeping duties.
PSW students will also complete two externships in a workplace environment. The first consists of 200 hours under the direct supervision of a clinical instructor at a long-term care facility. The second consists of 110 hours of practical job experience in the community. Field experiences often lead directly to employment after graduation.

Pharmacy Assistants perform many tasks including filling prescriptions, packing and labelling pharmaceutical products, maintaining prescription records and inventories of medications, compounding medications, handling sale transactions, providing excellent customer service and much more! Pharmacy Assistants are a key part of the community pharmacy practice.
Throughout the Pharmacy Assistant program, students will learn the history of pharmacy, legislation and health care systems, the role of the pharmacist, technician and assistant, federal and provincial legislation, understanding dispensary, medical and pharmaceutical terminology, prescription interpretation and the abbreviations, introduction to various dosage forms, the various therapeutic classifications of drugs. Other Pharmacy Assistant courses include Pharmacy Calculations, Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, and Pharmacy Compounding.
Professionalism and communication skills are also covered and include verbal and written communication skills, customer service, dealing with professional, peers and dispensary staff; problem solving techniques, handling complaints, and confidentiality.
As part of the Pharmacy Assistant program, students will receive hands on training on operation and maintenance of a typical pharmacy software, entering prescriptions and printing labels, maintaining patient’s profile, drug search, doctor search, special instructions, third party billing and inventory management. The Physiotherapist Assistant Diploma program has been designed to provide students with a strong foundation to work under the supervision of a Physiotherapist. Inclusive of an 8-week clinical placement, the program provides a well-rounded combination of theory instruction and practical training from which the student can continually develop and apply their knowledge to skilled tasks and proper assessment procedures. Possible employment settings include hospitals, physiotherapy clinics, rehabilitation centres, long-term care facilities, sports medicine clinics, community health care agencies or other medical settings.

The Community Service Worker program at Medix College provides technical training for individuals looking for a rewarding career in the community service field. This program involves a great deal of small group work, practice interviews, and exercises in self-awareness. During the program, students will grow to understand the complexities of contemporary community work practice, the helping process, human development, first aid/CPR and crisis prevention.
Students will practice with families and individuals, understand the human health model, and explore research methods. Throughout the course of the Community Service Worker Program, students will gain the knowledge and experience to prepare them for work with clients from a range of age groups, with a variety of social and emotional issues.
