Business, Accounting, Marketing Programs

  • In our International Business Communications Program, SELC focuses heavily on experiential learning classroom techniques to increase student’s capacity in these client care skill sets and increase their ability to demonstrate higher levels of the required attributes. Students will leave this program with the ability to work in various Canadian industries that require client care and customer service. Instructors use comprehensive and consistent lesson plans to engage and instruct students in a dynamic and highly experiential learning environment.

  • The Business Foundations Co-op program emphasizes the long-standing principle of “Doing the Basics Best.” The business courses in the Business Foundations 200 program focus on cutting-edge firsts, up-to-date issues that shape today’s business world, and experiential learning that helps students to build a solid foundation of business knowledge and skills. Students will learn the essentials for Canadian Business, Organizational Behaviour, Marketing and Business Communications. These courses work together to provide a seamless coverage of vital knowledge, helping students to understand the concepts behind best practices in business while they develop and refine their skills to meet employer expectations in business today.

  • The Business Administration Co-op program combines all the dynamics of Business Foundation 200 which emphasizes the long-standing principle of “Doing the Basics Best.” The business courses in the Business Administration Pathway program focus on cutting-edge firsts, and up-to-date issues that shape today’s business world using experiential learning that helps students to build a solid foundation of business knowledge and skills. Students will learn the essentials for Canadian Business, International Business, Organizational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, and Business communications, Selling, Marketing and Financial Accounting. These courses work together to provide a seamless coverage of vital knowledge, helping students to understand the concepts behind best practices in business while they develop and refine their skills to meet employer expectations in business today.

  • This program focuses on the fundamental aspects of Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics as well as project management. Supply chain management is a broad term that includes a variety of roles and functions such as; operations, purchasing, warehousing, distribution and logistics. The needs and diversity of roles can also depend on the industry, when it comes to the daily responsibilities of a supply chain professional.

    SELC is a designated “Centre of Excellence in Logistic & Learning '' for the Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation (CITT) and students in the program will receive the entire CITT training courses and associated certifications. Students that successfully complete the full academic requirements are eligible for the CCLP designation (CITT - Certified Logistics Professional).

  • Supply chain management is a broad term that includes a variety of roles and functions such as; operations, purchasing, warehousing, distribution and logistics. The needs and diversity of roles can also depend on the industry, when it comes to the daily responsibilities of a supply chain professional. It has been said that supply chain management specialists are the glue that holds a business together. Now more than ever with the current global conditions due to the Pandemic, Supply Chain Management specialists are in critical demand.

    At SELC our Supply Chain Management program meets this complex industries current needs for skilled professionals. Students attend courses designed to provide a solid skills base in all the components of a Supply Chain Management as well as providing valuable skills and knowledge in the business aspects such as: Communication & Negotiation, Business Ethics, Digital Business & E-Commerce and Project Management.

    SELC’s Digital Marketing Program covers both basic to advanced principles of digital and social media marketing as well as communication and basic business acumen that any employee, business owner or freelancer needs in order to thrive in the ever-changing world of digital marketing. The program will empower students to grow their digital marketing knowledge and skill base, advance in their career and/or improve their current presence on digital mediums. SELC also offers a Digital Market Specialist Diploma.

Education, Teaching Programs

  • The Live in Caregiver (childcare) program is a training program that prepares students to work for Canadian families or organizations providing caregiving services for children. Students will gain essential skills, including knowledge of Canadian Culture, interpersonal communication skills, guiding children’s behaviour, and other health and safety related skills required to be a live-in caregiver.

  • There is increasing demand for Education Assistants (EAs) in the province of BC, and they are employed by every school district throughout the province. SELC Career College prepares students to work as EAs in a school setting where they will be supporting the development of individual students, participating in school-based team meetings, and helping design and implement Individualized Education Plans. The program includes both theoretical studies, observation and practical applications. More specifically, EAs assist school teachers and other staff as they work with students who may require additional support for academic, behavioral, and social emotional needs. For example, students who are facing various learning challenges: cognitive barriers, physical/mobility issues, severe/complex mental health conditions, and autism-related disorders.

Healthcare, Wellness, Pharma Programs

  • SELC offers a PGND program designed to meet the need for internationally educated nurses (IEN) to be competent for nursing licensure and nursing practice positions in Canadian healthcare systems. The program's goal is to provide proper training to IEN to adapt to Canadian Nursing Practice Standards. This program facilitates IEN with extensive acquaintance and skills to meet clients' complex health needs in always progressing practice environments. The IEN's will participate in the assessment, analysis, advancement, application of practice and policy that directs care delivery. At the end of the program, IEN will acquire adequate knowledge about the Canadian Health Care System, the Canadian Nursing professions, licensing requirements, and available education and career pathways.

  • A Health Unit Clerk typically provides clerical and administrative support to healthcare facilities such as hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes. They work closely with healthcare professionals, patients, and their families to ensure the smooth functioning of the facility.

    The program for Health Unit Clerk typically includes a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training in various areas of healthcare administration. Students learn about medical terminology, electronic health records, medical transcription, patient scheduling, and other administrative tasks.

  • A Medical Office Assistant is an administrative professional who provides clerical and administrative support in medical facilities such as hospitals, clinics, and private practices. They play a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of medical offices by managing patient records, scheduling appointments, billing and coding, and performing other essential administrative tasks.

    Students learn about medical terminology, medical billing and coding, electronic health records, patient scheduling, and other administrative tasks. The program also includes training in communication skills, patient interaction, and how to manage patient information, handle medical records, and work with insurance companies and other healthcare providers.

  • A new and in high demand position within hospitals, private surgical centers and acute care facilities is the Hospital Support Specialist. A key role is multitasking administrative and clerical duties across the hospital environment. Students in the Hospital Support Specialist will learn valuable skills for working in a hospital environment in administrative and clerical support roles.

    The courses taught throughout the program are designed for applied learning and pragmatic application of skillsets. Taught by industry professionals, the learning throughout the courses is interwoven with very real-world examples and pragmatic applications of essentials skills.

    Students will come away with a deepened understanding of the complex administrative structures of hospitals and requirements for clerical, administrative and supportive roles. They will acquire enhanced communication skills, technology for healthcare, admitting and registration of patients in various departments and/or hospital units, billing, documentation and patient data, clerical tasks, scheduling and handling patient charts.

  • The Health Care Assistant program at SELC College prepares students for a variety of opportunities in the health care field. This program helps students acquire the core skills and competencies required for the care of clients in a multi-level complex care settings, assisted living, group home and home care settings.

Human & Social Services, CSW Programs

  • SELC’s Community Support Worker Social Services Program is for students who want to help build healthy communities, and support marginalized or vulnerable individuals. Students in this program learn vital skills such as interviewing and counselling skills, interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making. SELC students will also reflect on their own practice through self-exploration, personal growth and development. This program will prepare students to work with indigenous clients in an anti-oppressive environment; indigenous voices are infused throughout the program. Students will learn how to be an advocate for their clients, while promoting self-determination. The goal of this program is to train students to assist individuals who are in need of support for basic activities of daily living, mental health struggles, substance use, domestic violence, and any other concerns and issues that affect the development of the whole person.

  • The Addictions Worker program at SELC College offers students an opportunity to learn the vital skills necessary to support individuals struggling with addiction issues. Students will utilize their knowledge of issues pertaining to homelessness, addictions, mental health, women with children, domestic violence/abuse, and to act as a client advocate who provides emotional support.

    A capacity to communicate and uphold clients’ rules, duties, and regulations in a polite but assertive manner is a major focus of this program. Our program supports a strength-based and harm reduction philosophy of intervention. As such, students will learn how to utilize the different harm reduction techniques in specialized contexts. Client self-determination is at the core of this program, and students will be demonstrating this philosophy during their practical work experience component of the program.

Travel, Tourism, Hospitality Programs

  • The Business & Hospitality Foundations Co-op program emphasizes the long-standing principle of “Doing the Basics Best.” This program focuses on cutting-edge firsts, up-to-date issues that shape today’s business and hospitality world, and creative pedagogy that helps students to build a solid foundation of business and hospitality knowledge. The Business & Hospitality Foundations 100 program will utilize daily in-class lectures accompanied by PowerPoint (PPT) presentations, in-class case studies, professional business presentations, quizzes and final module exams.

  • These courses provide the crucial link between academia and the global hospitality industry. They give students the applied, real-world knowledge employers seek. The courses prepare students for entry-level and upper-level hospitality management positions, as well as specific technical and supervisory job skills employers’ demand.

    Instructors use comprehensive and consistent lesson plans to engage and instruct students in a dynamic and experiential learning environment. The courses make use of Vital Source online resources through E-text. Through the Google Classroom portal they can watch videos and complete attached assignments, create comprehensive study guides, take snap quizzes and track their learning and grades. As a result, the program engages current online and classroom active learning and stimulates critical thinking.

  • The Tourism and Hotel Management Program at SELC offers an extensive curriculum designed to prepare students for leadership roles within the vibrant tourism and hospitality sectors. This program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of the operational, managerial, and strategic aspects of the tourism and hospitality industry.
