Creative Arts, Interactive, Sound Programs

  • The Fundamentals Bootcamp is an ideal way for students who are starting on their artistic journey to learn and develop their art fundamentals. The classes have been pre-selected and grouped for optimal progression so students can be introduced to key theory and practices that will build on each other from one term to the next.

    In taking the Fundamentals Bootcamp parts I and II, you will build the skills required to create a portfolio that can be used to apply for our Online Concept Art Program.

  • This course covers the most essential drawing fundamentals that every artist should know; depicting light, shadows and forms. You will also learn the basics of human proportions and anatomy through studying portraits and nude figures.

    Our curriculum blends classical drawing instruction developed by old masters with modern teaching methods (e.g. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain) so that artists can see rapid improvement in their skills while developing a unique style.

    This class is perfect for beginners and serves as a building-block for our other classes. Everyone can learn to draw!

  • This course covers the skills and techniques needed to believably depict architecture, props, vehicles, indoor and outdoor spaces and living things in proper perspective. As one of the most fundamental skills in a visual artist's arsenal, learning to draw in accurate perspective immediately and noticeably elevates an artist's work and allows them to create realistic images which convey space and depth.

  • In this course, you will learn a step-by-step method for accurately representing the human form.
    Through demonstration and personalized feedback, you will go from a drawing composed of basic geometric shapes to a fully-rendered piece of art.

    Areas of focus will include human proportions, drawing the body in motion, foreshortening and rendering techniques.

    To this day, Photoshop remains one of the most versatile and widely-used art programs by concept artists and illustrators, making it a must-know digital software for aspiring professional artists.

    Each pre-recorded lesson will be available one week before the live feedback session. You’ll be able to watch these at your own leisure and practice the skills and theory you learn from each video! Then, once a week, you will join your instructor and up to 9 other students for live personalized feedback on your artwork.

  • Embark on a creative journey where students will explore the enchanting realm of creating illustrations for kids' books. This course is designed to hone both conceptual and technical skills, guiding participants through the diverse steps and stages essential for crafting captivating visuals tailored for young readers.

  • Understanding the fundamentals of digital figure painting is a key element to bringing characters life and vibrancy, and can bring concepts or illustrations to a polished and professional level.

    Through demonstrations and exercises focusing on understanding the basics of colour, values and material studies, our instructor will guide you in rendering the head, body and clothing of a character. You will also be instructed on topics such as clothing drapery, lighting scenarios, painting skin tones and shape design. By the end of this course, you will have a completely rendered character from imagination.

Throughout the term, you will learn to carefully observe, research, analyze and see the world like a professional concept artist!

Do you wish to create original and convincing creature designs that drive the story-line and strike an immediate chord with the audience? Top concept artists are highly proficient at creating iconic creatures that evoke the desired emotions while integrating seamlessly with the overall art direction.

  • In this course, you will learn an effective step-by-step process for designing stunning environments befitting any genre or story. With your teacher acting as your art director, and your assignments simulating the industry environment, you will learn how to make crucial design decisions when developing many iterations of a concept, all the while using design principles to convey a mood and develop a that will fully immerse your audience.

  • In this course, you will learn the process of creating impactful illustrations from start to finish. With your instructor acting as both your guide and your project client, they first will show you how to best source reference images and then sketch multiple variations of your concept, allowing you to push your ideas to their fullest creative potential. You will also develop a thorough understanding of how to use composition, colour and lighting to create visually-striking work that is both memorable and guides the audience to elements of narrative importance.

  • In this introductory class, you will learn a step-by-step method for developing distinct and memorable character concepts that draw your audience into the narrative while integrating seamlessly with the overall art direction of your project.

  • Making comics may be one of the most complex art forms that an artist can tackle on their own, but it doesn't have to be intimidating! In this course, you will learn all about the narrative elements of comics including writing dialogue, developing characters and story structure as well as the technical skills involved in making them such as inking, drawing easy-to-follow sequential art, and using colour and shading to enhance mood.

  • In this course, former Disney animator Mike Wiesmeier will introduce the principles and techniques used by 2D animators to capture the gesture, personality and anatomy of animals!

    Over the term, you will learn to simplify animal structures that capture the volumes and perspectives of any pose without compromising on the looseness and dynamic qualities of your drawing. By studying photographic and animated references, you will also learn the key differences (and similarities!) between human anatomy and the skeletal and muscular structures of quadrupeds.

  • In this course, former Disney animator Mike Wiesmeier will introduce the principles and techniques used by 2D animators to capture the gesture, personality and anatomy of the human body!

    This course will help you understand the essential principles and drawing methods that are typically used in hand-drawn animation. You will gain the techniques required to represent the human form with depth and three-dimensionality so your sketches appear lively and dynamic.

    By the end of this course, you will possess the observational and drawing abilities needed to convey the personality and emotion of your human character drawings.

  • Our Online Concept Art Program was redesigned to align closely with our Montreal AEC program. During the course of this program, you will receive intense, focused and highly relevant training from experienced concept artists and illustrators currently working in the entertainment industry.

  • If you qualify for this elite 18 month training program, you will receive all the tools, techniques, training, skills and strategies required to build a high quality concept art portfolio and get hired as a concept artist in the entertainment industry.

    This is a very intensive training where you will develop your design and illustration skills while working in an industry environment, under the direct supervision of an instructor who will act as your art director.
